Privacy Policy

Effective date: August 27, 2026. Last updated: August 27, 2026.

FidoHikes ("we," "us") is an independent publication owned and operated by Trisha Dach as a sole operator in the United States. This policy explains what information we collect when you use fidohikes.com, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.

Information We Collect

You can read every article on this site without giving us any personal information. We collect data in three ways:

  • Information you give us. Your email address (and optionally a first name) when you sign up for our newsletter or the free Trail Pack, when you create a FidoHikes account, or when you email us directly. If you buy Meal Plan Pro, you also give payment details — to our payment processor, not to us (see below).
  • Meal Plan Pro account data. If you use Meal Plan Pro, we store the information you enter to build your plans: a display name if you set one, your dog's name, weight, life stage, body condition and any notes, the foods you select, trip details such as dates and resupply points, and saved plan results. This lives in your account so your plans persist between visits, and you can delete it at any time from your account or by emailing us.
  • Information collected automatically. Standard analytics data: pages viewed, time on page, referring site, approximate geographic region (city/country level), device and browser type, and clicks on outbound product links. When you submit the newsletter form, we also process your IP address briefly for abuse prevention: it is stored for up to one hour to rate-limit repeated submissions, then discarded.
  • Information from cookies and similar technologies. See the Cookies section.

We do not knowingly collect sensitive personal information, and we do not sell or rent personal information to anyone.

How We Use Your Information

  • To send the newsletter, the Trail Pack, and product updates you asked for
  • To create and maintain your account and deliver Meal Plan Pro if you purchase it
  • To process payments and handle refunds or billing questions
  • To understand which articles and tools are useful so we can improve them
  • To measure affiliate link performance and reconcile commission reporting
  • To respond when you contact us
  • To protect the site against abuse, spam, and fraud

Analytics and Third-Party Tracking

We use Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-19E9ZCLVSR) to collect anonymous usage data including pages visited, time on site, general geographic location, device type, and outbound affiliate link clicks. Google sets cookies in your browser to do this and processes that data under Google's Privacy Policy. We have not enabled Google Analytics advertising features or Google Signals. You can opt out of Google Analytics entirely with the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

Affiliate networks. We participate in the Amazon Associates Program and other affiliate networks. When you click an affiliate link, the network and the merchant may set cookies or use similar technologies to attribute a resulting purchase to FidoHikes. Those cookies are set by the network or merchant, not by us, and the data they collect is governed by their own privacy policies. We receive only aggregated commission reporting — we never see your name, address, or payment details from a purchase you make at a merchant.

Affiliate optimization tools. If FidoHikes enables oneTag or a similar affiliate optimization tool, that service may measure link and content performance to improve affiliate reporting. You can limit this kind of tracking through your browser privacy controls, cookie settings, or content blocking tools.

Service Providers We Share Data With

We share personal information only with the vendors that make the site work, and only to the extent they need it:

  • Cloudflare — website hosting, CDN, and security
  • Google Analytics — site usage measurement
  • Listmonk and Resend — newsletter storage and email delivery
  • Supabase — account sign-in and saved calculator plans for Meal Plan Pro customers
  • Stripe — payment processing for Meal Plan Pro. Card details go directly to Stripe; FidoHikes never receives or stores your full card number.
  • Amazon Associates and other affiliate networks — commission attribution and reporting

We may also disclose information if required by law, to enforce our Terms of Service, or to protect the rights and safety of our readers or our business.

Cookies

Cookies are small files stored by your browser. FidoHikes and its third-party services use them for three purposes: analytics (Google Analytics, to measure traffic), affiliate attribution (set by affiliate networks and merchants when you click a product link), and essential functions. If you have a FidoHikes account, your signed-in session is kept in your browser's local storage rather than a cookie, so clearing cookies alone will not sign you out — sign out from your account page, or clear your browser's site data for fidohikes.com, to remove it. We do not run advertising networks or retargeting pixels on this site.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time. Blocking analytics and affiliate cookies will not prevent you from reading anything on the site, though it may sign you out of your account.

Affiliate Links

Many product links on FidoHikes are affiliate links, disclosed on every page where they appear and explained in full on our Affiliate Disclosure. When you click one, the destination merchant collects information according to its own privacy policy, which we do not control.

Your Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights over the personal information we hold about you:

  • Access — ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you
  • Correction — ask us to fix information that is wrong or out of date
  • Deletion — ask us to delete your information, including your email address and account
  • Opt out of marketing — unsubscribe from any email using the link in the footer of that email, or by emailing us
  • Opt out of sale or sharing — FidoHikes does not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), so there is nothing to opt out of
  • Non-discrimination — we will never give you worse service for exercising a privacy right
  • Portability and objection — if you are in the UK, EU, or EEA, you may also request your data in a portable format, object to processing, or lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority

To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected]. We respond to verified requests within 30 days at no charge. We may need to confirm your identity — usually by asking you to write from the email address on the account — before acting on a request.

Where the GDPR applies, our legal bases for processing are consent (newsletter), contract (delivering Meal Plan Pro to a customer), and legitimate interests (site analytics, security, and affiliate reporting).

Data Retention

We keep newsletter subscriptions until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. Account and purchase records are kept for as long as your account is active, and afterwards only as long as needed for tax and accounting records. Google Analytics data is retained on Google's default schedule and is not tied to your name or email address.

Data Security

The site is served entirely over HTTPS. Account credentials and payment processing are handled by Supabase and Stripe respectively, and FidoHikes never stores passwords or full card numbers. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children's Privacy

FidoHikes is written for adults and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal information, email us and we will delete it.

International Visitors

FidoHikes is operated from the United States, and information we collect is processed there. If you visit from outside the U.S., you understand that your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as the site changes. When we do, we revise the "last updated" date at the top. Material changes will be noted on this page.
